Short answer: at 5–10 years, your resume should lead with impact, scope and leadership — revenue, budgets, team sizes, promotions — not tasks or education. Reverse the fresher formula: summary and achievements first, education last.
The most common mid-career mistake is using the same resume shape you used as a fresher — a long skills list, education near the top, and bullets that describe duties. At this stage a recruiter isn't asking "can this person do the job?" but "what impact has this person had, and how much can they own?"

Lead with scope and impact
The single biggest upgrade is rewriting bullets to show scale. A fresher writes "managed social media accounts." An experienced professional writes "led a 4-person team managing social media for 12 brands, growing combined reach by 40%." Same activity — but now it signals ownership, leadership and results.
Reach for the numbers that grow with seniority: team size, budget owned, revenue influenced, number of clients or projects, percentage improvements, and scope (regions, branches, product lines).
Show promotions. If you rose within a company, list the roles under the same employer so progression is visible. A promotion is one of the strongest signals on a resume — don't hide it by merging roles into one title.
Example: Senior Software Engineer (8 years)
Arjun Mehta
Senior Software Engineer
Bengaluru, India | arjun.mehta@email.com | +91 98xxx xxxxx | github.com/arjunmehta
Professional Summary
Senior software engineer with 8 years building and scaling web platforms. Led teams of up to 6, delivered products serving 1M+ users, and cut infrastructure costs by 30%. Strong in system design, mentoring and reliable delivery at scale.
Listing duties instead of impact. "Responsible for sales" says nothing at this level.
Keeping education at the top. Your work now speaks louder than your degree.
Including every job since college. Focus on the last 10–15 years and what's relevant.
Hiding promotions by collapsing progression into a single title.
A generic summary. Yours should state scope and one or two headline results.
No numbers. Seniority is proven with scale — team size, budget, revenue, percentages.

How is an experienced resume different from a fresher one?
It leads with impact and scope rather than education and projects — results, budgets, team sizes, promotions — and moves education to the bottom.
How long should it be?
One to two pages. A second page is fine when filled with relevant, recent achievements.
Should I include all past jobs?
Focus on the last 10–15 years and the most relevant roles. Summarise or drop older, unrelated positions.
Do I still need a skills section?
Yes — it helps ATS matching and lets a recruiter see your core tools quickly. Keep it concise.
Should I show promotions?
Yes. List them under the same employer to show progression, and quantify what changed at each step.
Your next step
Open a sample for your role, then rewrite your top five bullets to show scale — team size, budget, revenue, or percentage improvement. That single change is what makes a resume read as senior.
